The Lake States Fire Science Consortium is a network of fire managers and scientists interested in the fire-dependent forest ecosystems of the Lake States region.
Mission
Our mission is to accelerate the awareness, understanding, and adoption of wildland fire science by federal, tribal, state, local, and private partners across the Lake States—from Minnesota to New York and the neighboring Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.
We connect managers, scientists, policymakers, and disciplines with the best available information and practical tools for fire-dependent ecosystems.
How we work
- Inclusive: relevant partners have an opportunity to participate.
- Neutral: we serve as science partners, not advocates for a particular management choice.
- End-user driven: manager and community needs shape our work.
- Collaborative: we foster communication between management and science.
- Innovative: we test useful ways to share knowledge.
- Facilitative: we help science findings and practitioner needs move in both directions.
What we do
- Translate and share relevant fire-science findings.
- Host webinars, workshops, field tours, and conversations.
- Connect managers and researchers around shared questions.
- Highlight demonstration sites and place-based learning.
